Volunteer Opportunities at CJRC
Our club relies on active participation and assistance from parent and other volunteers to ensure safety, fun and success for our teams. We strive to make being a volunteer a fun and fulfilling experience. Although the majority of our volunteers are parents of current team members in any given season, we also have opportunities for siblings and extended family relatives and friends.
When it comes to managing and staffing our well-regarded home regattas, a number of our most valuable volunteers are team alumni and parents of former team members, who continue to support and appreciate the unique CJRC experience, and thrive on the challenging work of staging a successful regatta.
Volunteer opportunities at CJRC fall into four categories: home regattas, away regattas, fund raising, and social activities.
Managing Home Regattas (April and May) includes activities such as:
· water and land set up and take down,
· start dock boat holders (paid work young/smaller siblings!)
· finish line and timing/computer/results operators,
· drivers for judges’ launches and safety boats,
· pre-race boats and crew checks,
· public address and announcements,
· helping boats take off (launch) and come in (retrieve), and
· awards and weigh-ins.
Fund-raising includes selling T-shirts and event clothing or working concessions at home regattas, working at Bengals games, coordination of the club’s annual holiday-season wreath sale, and assisting with outreach in the club’s annual fund drive.
Away regatta activities center on helping the team in traveling to out of town venues, including chaperoning, travel coordination, team tent and equipment set up and take down, and team food coordination.
Club Social Activities include organization of the Fall Pot Luck Dinner, Winter Dinner, and Senior Dinner, providing pictures and video of regattas and events, and making an annual video compilation of the CJRC year.
